Dr. Ainojie ‘Alex’ Irune

Dr. Ainojie ‘Alex’ Irune is the Chief Operating Officer, Oando Energy Resources (OER). Prior to assuming this role in 2018, he was the Chief Strategy & Corporate Services Officer at Oando PLC from 2016 to 2018. He also served as the Head of Corporate Communications from 2013 to 2016, where he oversaw all internal and external brand-building efforts across the company’s business entities.

Dr. Irune spearheaded the global communications strategy following Oando’s successful $1.5bn acquisition of ConocoPhillips Nigeria’s upstream assets. Recently, he re-enacted these efforts in the wake of a $210 million strategic partnership between Oando Downstream, Vitol and Helios Investment Partners to create OVH Energy; and a $115.8 million Midstream alliance between Oando Gas & Power and Helios.

Prior to his time at Oando PLC in 2011, Dr. Irune worked in the United Kingdom as an In-Vehicle Systems Designer with Nissan, Honda, and Jaguar Land Rover and graduated from the University of Nottingham with a B.Sc. in Computer Science in 2002, and attained his PhD in Computer Science from the same university in 2009.

Engr Simbi Wabote

Engr. Simbi K. Wabote was appointed as the Executive Secretary Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) by President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) on the 29th of September 2016. Prior to his appointment he was an Executive Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) Nigeria Limited and the General Manager Business and Government Relations for Shell Companies in Nigeria (SCiN).

Engr. Wabote joined Shell in September 1991 as an Oil and gas Engineer after a short stint with the Banking industry in Nigeria.

Prior to taking up his role as an Executive Director of Shell, he had served Shell in various senior positions within and outside the country in Engineering, Contracting & Procurement, External Affairs and Community Affairs Directorates. As Head of Civil engineering in Shell Eastern Division, he was responsible for major key civil engineering projects for the company, including the Shell Osubi airport in Warri Delta State Nigeria. He served as the National Assembly Relations Adviser to Shell and was the General Manager, Local Content Development, of Shell Exploration Production Company in Nigeria (SEPCiN). He was responsible for the development of Royal Dutch Shell’s local content strategy and framework and supervised Shell Local Content implementation across several countries including Nigeria, Gabon, Brunei, Oman, Kazakhstan, Australia, Iraq, Qatar, Jordan, USA and new frontier countries for Shell.

Simbi holds an MSc from Leeds Metropolitan University, Graduate of Civil Engineering from Rivers State University of Science and Technology Port Harcourt and a graduate of INSEAD group leadership programme. He is also a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and a COREN Registered engineer and a member Institute of Civil Engineers London.

As the Executive Secretary, NCDMB his new assignment is to steer strategic National programs being implemented by the Board to build capacity and domicile industry activities within Nigeria. He is expected to bring his global experience to bear in re-engineering the Board’s business processes to achieve maximum impact on Nigerian Content development.

Paul McGrath

Paul McGrath is Chairman/Managing Director of ExxonMobil’s two upstream affiliates, Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN) and Esso Exploration & Production Nigeria Limited (EEPNL).

Prior to his appointment as Chairman/Managing Director in March 2017, he was Project Execution Manager for ExxonMobil Development Company in Houston.

He has over 30 years oil and gas industry experience, beginning as a process supervisor working offshore operations on Brent Delta, UK North Sea. He Joined ExxonMobil in 1999, and has held various technical and managerial assignments covering deepwater platforms, subsea and onshore oil and gas facilities.

Paul holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Strathclyde University in Glasgow. He is also a member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Jeff Ewing

Mr. Jeff Ewing became the Chairman and Managing Director for the Nigeria Mid-Africa Strategic Business Unit for Chevron Africa and Latin America Exploration and Production Company (CALAEP) in January 2017. He is based in Lagos, Nigeria and is responsible for Chevron’s  businesses in Nigeria and West Africa.

Mr. Ewing received his Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1986. He joined Chevron in 1985, working as a Drilling Representative in Louisiana, Democratic Republic of Congo and United Kingdom.  Since then, Jeff has held numerous technical and management upstream positions of increasing responsibility in different locations; including Democratic Republic of Congo, Indonesia, Kuwait, Scotland, the United States of America, Venezuela and Nigeria.

He is member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and he currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND).

Dr Maikanti Baru

Maikanti Kachalla Baru is an indigene of Bauchi State. He obtained his West African School Certificate in 1978 from the Federal Government College Jos and later bagged a First Class Honours in Mechanical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1982. He also attended the University of Sussex, United Kingdom where he graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering in 1987.

Between 1988-1991, he held various positions at the Jos Steel Rolling Company Ltd. including Head Corporate Planning and Electrical Department while also serving in several committees in the company.

He was the Manager National Engineering and Technical Company Limited (NETCO) from May to November 1991. He became the Manager, Operations of Procurement Management Services (PROMAS) from 1991-1993 where he saved the Corporation over $70 million in six months of operation.

Thereafter, he served in NAPIMS as the Manager Gas Department for four years and in 1997, he was appointed General Manager, Gas Development Division and during his stewardship of the Joint Venture Gas Projects, they were able to save over $575 million.

In July 1999, he was appointed as the Executive Director, Operations of the Nigerian Gas Company, Warri where he was responsible for the smooth operation of all the facilities in the Nigerian Gas Company ensuring uninterrupted gas supply to customers such as NEPA.

He left this position in 2004 and was appointed as the Managing Director Hyson (Nigeria) Ltd and under his stewardship; Hyson was introduced into the domestic LPG business and grew rapidly raking in N24m in 2004, N164m in 2005 and N400m in 2006.

From 2006 to 2007, Dr. M.K Baru was the Group General Manager, Greenfield Refinery Projects Division where he was tasked with ensuring the smooth execution of the feasibility study, design, construction and operation of new refineries in Nigeria.

Following his good work there, he was appointed in 2007, as the Group General Manager of the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS) where he was responsible for ensuring the effective supervision of the nation’s investment in the upstream of the Nigeria’s oil industry. This covered the six joint ventures, sixty-two production-sharing contracts and other ad-hoc assignments.

Till his appointment as the Group Executive Director, Exploration and Production, Dr. Baru was the Group General Manager LNG Division. In his capacity, he handled the commercial and administrative aspects of the LNG Investment Businesses. He was also the NNPC’s Chief Technical Negotiator on the West African Gas Pipeline project and chaired the NNPC Anti-Corruption Committee.

In March 2016, he was appointed Technical Adviser (Gas Matters) to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and on July 4th 2016, President Muhammad Buhari appointed him as the 17th Group Managing Director of the NNPC.

Dr. Baru has shown academic excellence over the years winning various prizes such as the Shell BP Petroleum Prize for the Best Final Year Mechanical Engineering Student and the Lever Brothers Prize for the Best Final Year Mechanical Engineering Investigation Project at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He has also attended prestigious institutions such as the Harvard Business School, College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Oxford, Columbia University Business School, New York and the Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business among others.

H.E. Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo

HE Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo of Nigeria began his tenure as Secretary General of the OPEC on 1 August 2016. He has previously been Nigeria’s National Representative, as well as its Governor to OPEC, and in 2006, he was Acting OPEC Secretary General.

From 2009 to 2010, he was Group Managing Director and CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Earlier in his career, he was Special Assistant to former Minister of Petroleum Resources and OPEC Secretary General, HE Dr Rilwanu Lukman KBE.

Mr. Barkindo has also been leader of Nigeria’s technical delegation to the UN climate change negotiations since 1991. He served as Chair of the Group of 77 and China at the UNFCCC and he was elected to serve three terms as Vice President of the Conference of the Parties.

Saidu A. Mohammed

Engr. Saidu A. Mohammed is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Gas & Power Directorate of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). He is a graduate of Chemical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, and a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers. He served as the President of the Nigerian Gas Association from 2012 to 2014.

In his over 35 years practice in the industry, he has contributed immensely to the development of the Nigerian gas sector including the development and commercialization of Natural Gas, Design and Construction of gas infrastructure and supply systems.

In the course of his career, he has held various technical and management positions, some of which are as follows:

Engr. Henry Ikemefuna Obih

Engr. Henry Ikemefuna C. Obih, a graduate of B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering from University of Nigeria, Nsukka and an MBA in Finance from the University of Bradford, UK was appointed Group Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer, Downstream, NNPC on 1st April 2016. Prior to this appointment, he had been an Executive Director of Operations at Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc from July, 2008 and its Executive Director, Retail from 2013 until he was appointed to head NNPC’s Downstream businesses. He joined Mobil Oil Nigeria from the U.K. in 1994 as a Project Engineer on the $30million Mobil Oil Nigeria manufacturing and terminal automation projects. Engr. Obih became Lubes Plant Manager in 1995 and was appointed Manager, Petroleum Jelly Plant in 1995. He subsequently held the positions of Manager, Aviation & Marine and Area Operations Manager (Nigeria & Ghana) before proceeding on a foreign assignment in 2000, to Belgium as Financial & Business Planning Analyst for Fuels Marketing, Africa & Middle East supporting Mobil Corporation’s businesses in 41 countries in the Africa-Middle East region. 

While in ExxonMobil (EM), among several projects, Engr. Obih led the Africa Terminal Optimization Project which evaluated the portfolio of assets owned by EM in Africa and restructured the portfolio supported by an investment plan which increased annual income from the owned terminals by over $5M, a 20% increase …in addition to his regional responsibilities, he was also part of the Global team that implemented Activity Based Costing (ABC) and Cost to Serve, two global programs aimed at achieving pacesetter cost levels for the Corporation, a critical factor for achieving Operational Excellence. Engr. Obih was a member of the Project team that delivered on time and within budget, the $154million asset upgrade project of MON’s Real Estate assets.

He has had a diverse and cross-functional career spanning over 30 years in the Downstream sector of the Oil & Gas industry with 22 of those years in Mobil, involving assignments in Project Management, Lubricants & Specialties, Manufacturing, Quality Systems Management, Business & Strategic Planning, Marketing & Operations. 

As GED/COO, Downstream, NNPC, he is currently leading the rehabilitation and restoration of the NNPC Pipelines, Terminals, Retail stations and Depot assets. In addition, he is responsible for coordinating the NNPC Downstream Strategic Business Units to achieve efficient Management of the Corporation’s fuels supply and distribution assets for a hitch-free supply chain.

Engr. Obih received B. Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Nigeria Nsukka in 1986 and an MBA from Management Centre University of Bradford UK in 1993. He is an Alumnus of INSEAD France and has also completed the Advanced Management Programme from Lagos Business School. He is also a member of various international and Nigerian Professional Bodies including Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Council for the Regulation of Engineering (COREN) and a Fellow of Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FNIMechE)

Anibor Kragha

Mr. Anibor Ohiole Kragha holds four degrees: a Bachelor in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota (1996), a Masters in Plastics Engineering from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell (1998) and two Masters’ degrees received from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2003.  At MIT, Mr. Kragha was a Fellow of the Leaders for Global Operations (LGO) dual-degree program via which he secured both a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA).

Mr. Kragha is currently the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the Refineries & Petrochemicals Directorate of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), a position that he has held from April 2016 to date. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the operations of NNPC’s four refineries with a total combined installed capacity of 445,000 barrels per day (BPD).  He is presently a member of the Board on two NNPC subsidiaries: NNPC Retail Limited and NNPC Medical Services Limited.

Before then, he served as the Group General Manager (GGM), Treasury for NNPC from September 2015 to March 2016, a role that saw him responsible for the Treasury Operations and inter-company funding arrangements for NNPC.  He was responsible for coordinating the implementation of the Federal Government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA) initiative across all Strategic Business Units in NNPC.

Prior to joining NNPC, Mr. Kragha spent over ten years working for Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN), an affiliate of ExxonMobil, in various capacities of increasing responsibility in Nigeria and the United States.  At MPN, Mr. Kragha served as Upstream Treasurer for ExxonMobil Affiliates in Nigeria from July 2012 to September 2015 and was responsible for Affiliate Finance, Benefits Finance & Investments, Cash Management and Insurance activities.

From January 2011 to June 2015, Mr. Kragha served as Financial Advisor for the ExxonMobil Development Company (EMDC) in Houston and Affiliate Finance Department at the ExxonMobil Corporate Headquarters in Dallas. At EMDC, he worked on a landmark US$ 1.5 billion project financing arrangement for Nigeria and developed a National Content framework for cross-functional teams in Angola, Indonesia and Houston.  In the Affiliate Finance role, he worked on complex valuations for ExxonMobil’s Hong Kong and Singapore subsidiaries, re-introduced inter-company financing into Esso Thailand and coordinated financing arrangements for affiliates in Thailand, Malaysia and Nigeria.

From February 2005 to December 2010, he occupied various positions of increasing responsibility in ExxonMobil Upstream Africa Audit and MPN’s Commercial and Treasurer’s departments. His roles included leading a diverse range of audit engagements in Chad, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Angola and Nigeria, implementing various Alternative Funding Arrangements and performing analysis of the impact of proposed Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) provisions on industry-wide oil & gas operations in Nigeria.

Mr. Kragha also worked as a Manufacturing Team Coordinator and Process Engineer at the Polaroid Corporation in the USA from 1998 to 2001.  He performed his mandatory one-year Nigeria National Youth Service requirement by providing leadership and career development seminars at local secondary schools.

Mr. Kragha is happily married with Children.

Nicolas Terraz

Nicolas Terraz was appointed Managing Director of Total Upstream Companies in Nigeria in September 2015. He is also Total Group Representative in Nigeria.

Prior to his current position, Nicolas Terraz was Vice-President, New Ventures & Asset Management, for Total Exploration and Production.

He served as Managing Director of Total E&P France (from 2011 to 2013) and as Managing Director of Total E&P Myanmar and Total Group Representative in Myanmar (from 2008 to 2011) and before this, he held positions for Total in Qatar and at the Head Office.

Mr. Terraz joined Total in 2001, after working for seven years in the French Ministry of Industry and in the French Ministry of Public Works and Transportation.

Born in 1969, he is married with four children.
