Austin Uzoka is a Chartered Engineer with vast oil and gas experience spanning over 24 years both as contractor and in the upstream business. He has worked for blue chip contractors and operators. In his current role, he has been at the core of Shell’s Local Content Development in the last 10 years supporting the company’s vision, strategy and growth. He was a Secondee to the start-up committee of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board after passage of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act in 2010.
In Gabon, He supported the delivery of a Shell Gabon Local Content Policy and drove the First ever National Oil & Gas Forum in Gabon. This was well received by all stakeholders including government Ministers and the Prime Minister. That marked the beginning of local content in Gabon.
Austin has a passion for import substitution to creating a true local content for the industry and to promote some Capacity Development Initiatives (CDI) on new businesses and product development as alternatives that will support compliance with the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act some of which are; formulation and development of local materials such as Stud Bolts and Nuts , Production chemicals, Anodes and so on and currently working to develop alternatives with the University of Ibadan and Uniport for local sources of drilling fluids.
Austin is well experienced in collaboration and has used his trainings at Harvard and MIT to facilitate strong partnerships and the establishment of a Shell/ UKTI partnership since 2009; a model now adopted in Kazakhstan and Iraq. He is also a champion of the deepening of the ‘ The Global Nigerian’ initiative.
