Since becoming Governor of Delta state in May 2007, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, a medical doctor by training has made stability of  the oil rich state the central plank of his administration’s governing policy. Governor
Uduaghan came into office at a time of serious crisis in the region, he introduced
the policy of engagement and law enforcement that produced order and stability,
a policy that was later adopted by the federal government in implementing the Amnesty Programme that conclusively ended the Niger Delta militancy. Delta state is located in the western part of Niger Delta region, accounts for 30% of  Nigeria crude oil production. With stability fully restored, Governor Uduaghan has
focused greatly his administration’s vision of economic development, poverty
reduction and infrastructure growth. His administration’s three point agenda of Peace and Security, Human Capital Development and Infrastructure Development
is embedded in his ‘Delta Beyond Oil’ vision, a programme targeted at diversifying
the economic prosperity of Delta state from over reliance on oil into industrialization
and other sustainable mode of economic activities. This ambitious programme is
being executed with strong commitment towards making Delta state an example
development in Nigeria.
